The NAC-Save Our Youth Foundation, Inc. was incorporated on December 22, 2005 and initially funded by contributions and membership dues from members of the Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In the first year of its operation, the Foundation was able to award only $400 in a mentoring grants and emergency assistance grants to South Hampton Roads youth and adults. One of our financial goals each year is to increase the number of amounts of scholarships awarded by 20% over the previous year while keeping our management expenses as low as possible.

The NAC-SOYF is the philanthropic arm of the Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The Alumni Chapter awarded more than $65,000 in scholarships prior to the formation of its Foundation. The Foundation is continually looking for innovative ways to generate funds. The Foundation annually sponsors the Swinging For Our Youth Golf Classic and the Black History Month Community Service Awards Program to raise funds to meet its budget. Individual, organizational and corporate donations continue to be sound funding sources.

Programs Supported by Fundraising

Black History Month Community Service Award Program

The Foundation and the Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. co-sponsor the annual Black History Month Community Service Award Program with donations from individual, corporations and ticket sales. Proceeds from this program are used to fund scholarships. The program honors outstanding community servants and feature national and international recognized speakers.

Credit Abuse Resistance Education Program

The Foundation and Alumni Chapter hosted the CARES Program for high school seniors on March 20, 2008. The CARES Program was created in 2002 to educate local high school students throughout our communities on the importance of maintain a debt free life. The program helps students develop their budgeting skills, financial planning, understanding consumer credit and ultimately improving their lives.

Alliance Technical Services, Inc.

Alliance Technical Services of Norfolk provides mechanical system overahaul and repair; equipment installation; manufacturing and fabrication; and technical support for marine mechanical systems. Alliance Technical Service continually supports the fund raising initiatives of the Foundation.

Curtex Construction Corporation

Curtex construction Corporation has been a perennial financial supporter of programs and initiatives of both the Chapter and the Foundation. Specializing in general construction, general building contracting, and nonresidential construction, Curtex Construction was the first major $5,000 sponsor of the golf classic.

Dominion Virginia Power

Dominion Virginia Power maintains a substantial and diverse commitment to quality education and believes that high-quality education is the key component to economic growth. Dominion Virginia Power has been a loyal supporter of the Foundation's mission and goals.

The Livas Group, P.C.

The Livas Group is an award winning minority owned firm, founded in 1948, specializing in urban planning, landscape architecture, interior design and comprehensive architecture. Located at 246 West Freemason Street in Norfolk, The Livas Group has been a perennial financial supporter of the Foundation's mission and goals.

Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity

Members of the Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. generously make financial donations to the Foundation. The Chapter also financially co-sponsors mentoring and social activities. The Fraternity's contributions and support have enable the Foundation to accomplish its mission and goals.

State Farm Insurance

Frank Owens, State Farm Independent agents strongly support the Foundation's fund raising initiatives on an annual basis. We are very proud of the support from State Farm.

Town Bank

As a hometown bank, Towne Bank has been the largest financial contributor to the Foundation. Similar to Towne Bank, the Foundation's resources are reinvested in youth residing in the South Hampton Roads' community to enhance the quality of life for everyone. In 2008, Town Bank was awarded the Foundation's South Hampton Roads Legacy Award which recognizes individuals or corporation contributions of $10,000 or more annually.

Wal-Mart Stores

Wal-Mart Stores proudly supports charitable causes important to it's employees and customers in the neighborhoods in which they live. The company supports initiatives focused on enhancing opportunities in education, job skill training, sustainability, health and human services. In 2007, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and the Wal- Mart Foundation gave $296 million to communities across the United States. We are pleased to have Wal-Mart as a financial supporter of the Foundation's mission and goals.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishers

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishers, a major matching gift contributor has supported the Foundation through its matching gift program.

Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation

The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation provided a $2,500 grant in August, 2009 to fund Guide Right and mentoring initiatives conducted by the Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter, and its Foundation.
